Trustworthiness
The “Comliest Garment”
A token of glory; the greatest portal leading unto the tranquility
and security of the people—a piercing force and effective power which the
stability of every affair has always depended on and does depend upon it.
Faithfulness
The life-giving and refreshing, the purifying
and sustaining dew for the tree of life; The immortal mystery and binding “Drop
of the Ocean of Love”
“This Wronged One testifieth that the purpose for
which mortal men have, from utter nothingness, stepped into the realm of being,
is that they may work for the betterment of the world and live together in
concord and harmony… We ask God, the True One, to invest all with the mantle of
trustworthiness, for that is the world's comeliest garment. (From a Tablet- translated from the Persian)
Over two millennia ago Socrates counseled, "The secret of
happiness, you see, is not found in seeking more, but in developing the
capacity to be able to enjoy the less."
“The
fruits that best befit the tree of human life are trustworthiness and godliness, truthfulness
and sincerity; but greater than all, after recognition of the unity of God,
praised and glorified be He, is regard for the rights that are due to one's
parents. This teaching hath been mentioned in all the Books of God, and
reaffirmed by the Most Exalted Pen. Consider
that which the Merciful Lord hath revealed in the Qur'an, exalted are His
words: "Worship ye God, join with
Him no peer or likeness; and show forth kindliness and charity towards your
parents..." Observe how loving-kindness to
one's parents hath been linked to recognition of the one true God! Happy they who are endued with true wisdom
and understanding, who see and perceive, who read and understand, and who observe that which God hath revealed
in the Holy Books of old, and in this incomparable and wondrous Tablet.” (Revealed by Baha’u’llah, cited in the annotated volume of “The
Kitab-i-Aqdas”, pp. 139-140)
“Worldly friends, seeking their own good, appear to
love one the other, whereas the true Friend hath loved and doth love you for
your own sakes; indeed He hath suffered for your guidance countless
afflictions. Be not disloyal to such a Friend, nay rather hasten unto Him. Such is the daystar of the word of truth and
faithfulness, that hath dawned above the horizon of the pen of the Lord of all
names.” (Revealed
by Baha’u’llah, “Persian Hidden Words”)
“They
that are endued with sincerity and faithfulness should associate with all the
peoples and kindreds of the earth with joy and radiance, inasmuch as consorting
with people hath promoted and will continue to promote unity and concord, which
in turn are conducive to the maintenance of order in the world and to the
regeneration of nations. Blessed are
such as hold fast to the cord of kindliness and tender mercy and are free from
animosity and hatred.” (From “Tablets of Baha’u’llah revealed after The Kitab-i-Aqdas”,
p. 36)
"Hasten
ye toward affinity!
Hasten ye
toward faithfulness!
Hasten ye
toward generosity!
Hasten ye
toward guidance!
Hasten ye
toward union!
Hasten ye
to behold the Light of the World!
Hasten ye
toward love and prosperity!
Hasten ye
toward peace and reconciliation!
Hasten ye
toward the law of disarmament!
Hasten ye
toward harmony and success!
Hasten ye
toward co-operation and mutual help in
the path
of guidance!"
(“Tablets of `Abdu’l-Baha”,
v.1, p. 569)
